Though Scrivener is great, it's complex and VERY outdated! As such, I've been looking for an alternative to Scrivener for quite some time. LivingWriter is the best alternative I've tried, and re-tried multiple times since I first discovered it in 2023. It's beautifully designed, simple to use, has a great plot board and story elements... plus I can write ANYWHERE as it's always synced.
It even has this sharing feature, which differs from what you're used to, but the nice thing is you can literally see things change if I'm writing while you're looking, plus you'll ALWAYS be reading the latest version AND you are welcome to make editorial notes. UPDATE: Turns out making editorial notes is only available to those I invite directly as an editor to the chapter, not on the share link I post for the reader.
I'm not sure if this will become a standard feature, so if you would like it to become standard, let me know. During this test, it's only available to paid members.
UPDATE: The month-end cross-post to Patreon proved to be problematic. With Scrivener, I export the chapter in HTML (for the text post) and then in DOCX, PDF and ePub for those who prefer the attachments. While LivingWriter is an AWESOME writing application, it absolutely SUCKS for exporting in any format except for PDF.
With that being said, I will finish The Atlantean Federation by cutting and pasting between both applications, but will use LivingWriter for any future books. The export process isn't perfect, but it's close enough for getting the manuscript into Vellum, which is the program I use for formatting the print and ebooks.
